Your Goals and Resolutions
Your list(s) of goals or resolutions:
See my Goals for 2024. I like a target-rich environment. Everything on that list is an opportunity to hit it. So if I miss some, it's no big deal, I've met plenty of others. This format helps me remember things I want to do.
About how often do you post about your goals? (e.g. annually, monthly, weekly)
Weekly in January, sporadically later in the year.
What kind of goals or resolutions do you typically make?
A mix of many different things. There are always writing goals and a handful of other favorites that I repeat. I usually have some house or yard goals. I'm a huge fan of one-day goals because they get me off to a good start accomplishing things. This year I tried a seasonal set for the first time and that worked out well.
When is your favorite time(s) for setting goals?
I customarily post my list on January 1.
What are some of your favorite goal-setting frameworks?
I'm familiar with SMART goals, but would have to look it up to remember the details. The one I've found most useful personally is a simple format of framing goals as "Do X thing Y times."
What do you find challenging about goals?
Remembering to look at the damn list. I'm doing better at it since I made that the first goal on the list. I still have a tendency to get to December and realize I had stuff that I should've done earlier.
Are you looking for goal partners or moral support, or people to follow?
I'm generally curious about what other people are planning to do or working on, and what techniques they use that I might consider trying.
What do you hope to find in this community?
I want a place to gather many of the personal goal posts that are currently scattered around in individual blogs.
Your Interests and Activities
What languages do you speak?
English, a little Spanish and Russian, a dab of Japanese, and a smattering of everything else I ever brushed up against. I am linguistic SillyPutty. Also I'm an avid xenolinguist and have constructed multiple languages ranging in size from short word lists to whole dictionary/grammar ones.
What are some of your favorite hobbies?
Cooking, crafts, gardening, photography, quantum mechanics.
What television shows and movies do you like?
Fandoms include Wednesday (The Addams Family), The Avengers, Good Omens, Jurassic Park, Lucifer, Magnificent 7, Star Trek, X-Men.
Most recently watched movie: Inside Out 2.
Most recently watched TV: The Dragon Prince.
What books or other written fandoms are you into?
The Avengers, Harry Potter, Lois McMaster Bujold, Magnificent 7, Mercedes Lackey, Nimona, Pern, The Sentinel, Sherlock Holmes, Tolkien, X-Men.
Currently reading: The Incredible Story of Cooking.
Recently finished: Penric's Progress.
What kinds of music do you enjoy? Listening, playing, or both?
Filk and folk. Almost entirely listening. I can manage a PVC pipe drum in a drum jam okay, and I'm fairly good with a sea drum.
Do you have a transformative works statement / blanket statement?
Mine is here.
What are some worthy causes you support?
Environmentalism, various disadvantaged ethnic groups, human rights, S-risks and X-risks.
Do you have pets or livestock, and if so, what kinds?
I tend to focus more on wildlife, so for instance, birdfeeding and native plants to support insects.
Do you enjoy gardening or houseplants, and if so, what kinds?
I love gardening and my yard is a laissez-faire permaculture. I have a hippie plant window with, hmm, between 1-2 dozen plants.
What does your average day look like?
I spend much of my time in my home office writing. During the warm season, though, daylight hours involve many trips outdoors for yardwork. You can see the writing on my blog, and I usually make a post about the day's birdfeeding/yardening activities too.
About Your Blog
What is your Dreamwidth blog like?
Imagine taking a random slice of a very large library, and that's about it, with a bunch of folks chatting in the lounge.
What is your blog metaphor?
Mine is a combination of living room and home office, and in fact those rooms are adjacent in my house.
How active is it?
Highly active. I post almost every day, often more than once. If you're tired of dead blogs, this is well worth checking out. If you are easily overwhelmed, this may not be the blog for you.
What are your most common topics?
Reading, writing, crowdfunding, poetry, networking, fantasy & science fiction, news, weblit, nature, gender studies.
How do you feel about crossposting?
It keeps communities active. Crossposting between your blog and any community is fine. Crossposting between unrelated communities is fine. Crossposting to lots of similar communities gets tedious if there's too much of it, but when traffic is low, any post is better than none at all.
Is your blog more text-heavy or image-heavy?
Text-heavy. Occasionally I post photo-essays of my yard.
Do you paste in or link to a lot of audio or video content?
Not a lot, but occasionally. Most of my links go to text articles.
Do you use recurring posts, and if so, what topics?
Yes, see my Recurring Posts page here or click the tag in my blog.
Is your blog more personal, professional, topical, or a mix?
A mix, but more professional and topical than purely personal. I have friends who use me as a newsfeed because they like the articles I link to.
Is it all open, all friendslocked, or somewhere in between?
Open. I almost never use the lock feature. Once something goes online, it's not really private, so I tend to post only things that I want to be generally visible.
What kinds of friends would you like to attract to your blog?
Tolerant, open-minded people who enjoy discussing big topics.
Do you participate in creative bingo, fests, challenges, memes, holiday festivities, or other blogging events? If so, what are some of your favorite ones?
I love creative bingo and often make cards on
What is your friending policy, if any?
Read mine here.
Your Blog-reading Habits
How often do you check your friends feed?
Erratically.
About how much time do you spend reading blogs?
It varies. I have a few that I check regularly. I can forget about my friends feed for days or weeks, then spend hours scrolling through hundreds of posts.
How active do you like a blog to be?
At least one post a week helps keep it in my mind. I really like daily-posting blogs. But I read some with lower traffic too.
What kinds of blogs or topics do you most enjoy reading?
I like art or photography blogs with images. I like writer's blogs too. Topical ones on favorite subjects are great fun. I'm less interested in purely personal blogs.
What are some of your favorite individual blogs on Dreamwidth?
What are some of your favorite communities on Dreamwidth?

Re: Hi
Date: Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024 07:44 pm (UTC)*laugh* Well, you're not wrong. At least it's not Texas?
>> What kind of goals or resolutions do you typically make? Totally unrealistic ones that fall by the wayside within a week – want to change that this year <<
That's a common problem, but there are lots of other options to try. The first step is just acknowledging that your previous goal approach was ineffective and deciding to experiment with something else. The masterlists are just getting started, but check Alternatives for a few new ideas.
>> What do you hope to find in this community? Some ideas for goals, some ideas for breaking them down into bitesize steps <<
There are already lots of ideas, and some are bitesized already. The section on Timeframes has one day, weekly, monthly, and seasonal goals for things smaller than year-size.
>> What is your Dreamwidth blog like? D.e.d. I need to revive it <<
This community might help with that too. If you make a list of goals, you could post that. Recurring Posts has a section about blog prompts, but for minimal effort, you could choose a recurring post where you just copy-paste the same text every time. Also, a goal of one post per month is much easier than one a week or day.
>> How active do you like a blog to be? Daily at least, which is why I suck <<
There's nothing wrong with that. Some folks have a read-only account and never bother to post.
Re: Hi
Date: Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024 08:30 pm (UTC)Yes, I read your annual posts about goals and think -- gee, I need to do that. LOL. And yes, if I can manage to make a few goals to track, I will definitely post about them. I'm also in therapy and I need to start journaling for that as well (those will probably be locked posts).
Re: Hi
Date: Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024 08:42 pm (UTC)That sucks.
>> Yes, I read your annual posts about goals and think -- gee, I need to do that. LOL. <<
Yay! I'm glad I could inspire you.
... don't try to emulate that whole thing. It is the product of many years of trial and error. If you look at the older year versions, you can see how it has evolved over time.
Start with something smaller and simpler that you think will work. Test it. Keep what works, fix what's broke, and try new things.
>> And yes, if I can manage to make a few goals to track, I will definitely post about them.<<
I look forward to seeing that.
>> I'm also in therapy and I need to start journaling for that as well (those will probably be locked posts).<<
Think about what you want to keep locked online, what should stay Secure On Paper Only, and what isn't safe to record at all. Many people on DW use a mental health filter so they can converse with a few friends about their healing journey. That's an option if you want moral support, but don't want to share everything with everyone.

Your Goals and Resolutions
Your list(s) of goals or resolutions:
TBA, since I've just started making my 2025 list! I'm also considering doing 101 goals in 1001 days again. I'll probably post about it in January.
About how often do you post about your goals?
In 2024 I did roughly quarterly.
What kind of goals or resolutions do you typically make?
It's kind of all over the map. I try to do a mixture of self improvement, health stuff, creative stuff, and fun stuff.
What are some of your favorite goal-setting frameworks?
I'm also a SMART goals person, but in terms of task related things I've also been following the GTD method forever and I've yet to find one that works better for me.
Are you looking for goal partners or moral support, or people to follow?
Mostly looking for people to follow!
What do you hope to find in this community?
Interesting people and encouragement mainly!
Your Interests and Activities
What languages do you speak?
English and enough Spanish to get by but definitely not fluent.
What are some of your favorite hobbies?
Writing, singing (I go to karaoke every single week lol), going to concerts, going to drag shows. I'm a big extrovert so with the exception of writing, most of my hobbies are about being around people and having experiences.
What television shows and movies do you like?
I fell into The Untamed in 2020 and never got out 😂
What kinds of music do you enjoy?
I listen to a pretty wide range of music, but ultimately I am a pop girlie, including kpop. To give a sample, some of the artists in my Spotify Wrapped playlist were Monsta X, iDKHOW, OnlyOneOf, Megan Thee Stallion, Fall Out Boy, Kim Petras, and Lil Nas X.
Do you have pets or livestock, and if so, what kinds?
I have two elderly sugar gliders! They are both rescues. They are my sweet baby boys and I love them dearly, though I wouldn't recommend them as pets to most people.
About Your Blog
What is your Dreamwidth blog like?
Mostly IRL things, life updates, and pet updates, with a heavy dose of music and concert recaps. I do a monthly recap post where I talk about stuff I did and media I liked.
How active is it?
At minimum once a month, though I'm going to try to do a little bit more in 2025. It'll help if I have more people to follow and comment on, I think.
What are your most common topics?
Music is the number one, sugar gliders are probably second.
Is your blog more text-heavy or image-heavy?
Definitely text.
Do you paste in or link to a lot of audio or video content?
I will sometimes embed music videos or performance videos, and I utilize links pretty heavily.
Is your blog more personal, professional, topical, or a mix?
Definitely personal.
Is it all open, all friendslocked, or somewhere in between?
Most posts are open, but occasionally if I post something super personal it'll be friendslocked.
Your Blog-reading Habits
How often do you check your friends feed?
A couple times a week, usually.
How active do you like a blog to be?
Weekly is probably the sweet spot, but more or less than that isn't a dealbreaker. Daily is probably a little much for me.
What are some of your favorite communities on Dreamwidth?
I've been active in
Currently...

Hello!
Date: Saturday, December 7th, 2024 08:58 pm (UTC)Yay! I was hoping to catch some people from there, and for that timing.
>> Atlanta, GA! <<
That's a pretty place. I'm in central Illinois.
>> TBA, since I've just started making my 2025 list! I'm also considering doing 101 goals in 1001 days again. I'll probably post about it in January.<<
I haven't started mine yet for 2025.
I tried finding a tracker for 101 and couldn't. :/ That's going to be really inconvenient because it's a popular challenge.
>>It's kind of all over the map. I try to do a mixture of self improvement, health stuff, creative stuff, and fun stuff.<<
Mine are always mixed. There's a big section of writing goals but also other creative stuff, practical items, experiences, etc.
>>Mostly looking for people to follow!<<
I post something almost every day, often more. I tend to track my goals right on that post, and only do update announcements in January. So if you watch the current goal list, you'll see things get marked as "met."
>>I have two elderly sugar gliders! They are both rescues. They are my sweet baby boys and I love them dearly, though I wouldn't recommend them as pets to most people.<<
They're in the "advanced" category but are adorable. I've seen one that a friend had. <3 I think the coolest trick is that, once bonded, they'll jump off things and glide to you. But if you build them a big enough enclosure, they're pretty entertaining to watch climbing and floating around. I've seen pictures online of repurposed closets and even spare rooms.
>>At minimum once a month, though I'm going to try to do a little bit more in 2025. It'll help if I have more people to follow and comment on, I think.<<
You might explore recurring posts, that helps with activity levels. If you like links, I post a LOT of those.
>>How active do you like a blog to be?
Weekly is probably the sweet spot, but more or less than that isn't a dealbreaker. Daily is probably a little much for me.<<
Yeah, mine may be too fast then. Some folks keep a list of blogs to check periodically, which avoids flooding their inbox with high-traffic ones like

Your Goals and Resolutions
Your list(s) of goals or resolutions: I made a list for my bingo card but I haven't whittled it down yet. I'm looking for a new job or source of income so lots of my goals are survival and/or small joys.
About how often do you post about your goals? (e.g. annually, monthly, weekly) Annually/when reminded. It ends up being a few times a year.
What are some of your favorite goal-setting frameworks? Bingo is a new one this year & I'm hoping it takes the pressure off of having one big goal.
What do you find challenging about goals? Being consistent about them & remembering them. I tend to forget about them.
Are you looking for goal partners or moral support, or people to follow? People to follow & maybe moral support or goal partners.
Your Interests and Activities
What languages do you speak? English
What are some of your favorite hobbies? Reading, baking, knitting, playing video games with my partner.
What television shows and movies do you like? Mostly genre fiction like sci fi, fantasy, superhero fiction (I like DC more them Marvel these days), and a variety of anime. I tend to binge a show rather then watch a lot of things coming out week to week, but I do follow a few shows as they come out. I also enjoy most of the shows on Dropout which is a comedy streaming service focusing on improv performers, with lots of interesting game shows & a D&D live play show series Dimension 20.
What books or other written fandoms are you into? I enjoy Sci fi, fantasy, steampunk, litrpg, speculative fiction, & romance esp with genre elements. I don't read much non fiction but I am trying to read at least 1 non fiction book a month in 2025. Current fandoms include Danny Phantom, DC particularly Batman & fam, spider man, & Avatar the last airbender.
What kinds of music do you enjoy? Listening, playing, or both? I sing but just for fun at home, no instruments. I was in choir while I was in school & so was my partner so we burst into song or sing along with music. I listen to lots of musicals, seasonal holiday music, parody, some rock, pop & country (redneck not republican)
Do you have pets or livestock, and if so, what kinds? Do you watch wildlife? I have 1 Pomeranian who is a spoiled lap dog and gives me and my partner great comfort and lots of cuddles. My windows are not positioned for me to watch wildlife but I do like doing so when I can.
Do you enjoy gardening or houseplants, and if so, what kinds? I like plants but have a lot of allergies and a very small apt. I currently have 1 houseplant which I have managed to keep alive for several years.
What does your average day look like? I'm currently unemployed & looking for work, so lots of job applications, cooking from scratch to save money, cleaning & caretaking for my disabled partner's needs, & some things that bring me joy like reading, baking & spending time with my partner.
